An interior is the natural projection of the soul – Coco Chanel.
This is one of our favorite lines and this is why. Your home should tell a story about who you are and what you love. Visitors should be able to walk into your home and get an instant feel of who you are and your personality. It is also vital that you feel totally at peace with yourself in your own surroundings.
So now you are getting ready to have an interior designer come in your home to update your furnishings and “re-do”. One of the most important things is to never tell an interior designer to “Just do whatever you want”. This is not fair to yourself or the designer. Get to know your designer and let them get to know you. Most clients know what they want, but may not be able to put it into words. You may not be able to tell your designer ‘everything’ you want because, well, they are the designer…but what you can do, is to give them an idea of what your style is. Still not sure? Okay – List for them 3 colors you like. Start a portfolio or a vision board of things you love – photos, websites, Pinterest ideas, etc. Decide what existing pieces you want to keep – like heirlooms or your collectibles. Your designer needs to know these things upfront. They need to get to know more about your personality – it better helps them help you. Too many times clients will leave it all up to the designer and they are left with surroundings that were not really meant for them.
Always remember – Be faithful to your own taste, because nothing you really love is ever out of style.
